I saw one in the wild, like two years ago. Damn sexy car, but the sticker price was way too high, and coupes in general are already a huge niche.

I damn near had the wife convinced to buy one a few years ago, but the rear seat isn’t big enough for a person with legs to sit in front of a rear facing car seat. Same reading we had to get rid of her beloved Mazda 3.

Yeah it’s really disappointing when the few modern-ish wagons left (A4, 3-series, Sportcross, CTS) have crap for rear legroom.

But for me: fuck the people in backseat. My dad made my cram in the back of his Audi 4000 coupe everyday. And I turned out okay!

I won’t lie; I’m hoping the value continues to drop until it’s time to replace my Volt. I love the Volt, but 90% of the time it’s just me in it. The nicer interior would be a good upgrade.

Yeah, except wait until you see the size of the damn rear-facing car seat you’re going to have to use for the first two years. It’s unbelievable how someone so Tony can take up so much space. Our parents didn’t have to deal with that crap. I was 16 before either of my parents owned a vehicle with four doors.

It’s just a different era. I never sat in no BOOSTER SEAT and I am near certain as an infant I was never in a child’s seat of any kind.

I vaguely remember a booster seat in my grandma’s car, and I definitely had an infant seat, but other than that I was just in a seatbelt.

It was worse when I lived on the west side of the sound. Car spotting on BI is probably even easier because everyone wants to be unique and they’re pretty Jalop. Too many brand new German cars (and supercars) on the roads in this area.

My child seats in the 1980s were so laughable compared to today. It’s a wonder we are alive. My parents had coupes until I was in the third grade and my mom was pregnant with my third sibling. All five of us, including 1-2 child seats, fit with plenty of space left over.

I recently approached my father (I’m 30 BTW) about our 2-door upbringing.

He replied — without any hesitation, “You were all young and flexible, your father was a big man than needed big doors to get on the driver’s seat.”

It only made me respect him more.

I had no issue with it. It seemed completely practical in retrospect. I wish I could do the same, but cars these days are ridiculously small inside for their external dimensions, plus it seems like car seats are designed to protect children from any harm while in a rusty sardine can when it is run over by a semi, not the crazy safe modern cars we all drive.

My dad also owned a 67 Scout II. It was a freaking MANSION inside. Little did I know it has no safety gear, padding, sidewalls, platic, etc.

Did he have anything with NO SEATBELTS?! Yeah, that’s the car my parents brought me home in. My dad drove that car until we got a 1970 VW T2 Transporter in 1988, so my child seats were designed to just hook over the seat backs... The later siblings had ones that *gasp* required a seat belt, so they switched to the other car for child transport duty.
